Ongoing idle/pilot issues

A few days ago, my 2018 KLR started to experience all the symptoms of a clogged pilot jet. Wouldn't run on idle, backfired lots on decel, hard to start. I tore apart the carburettor. The first time I gave it a basic clean but when re asembled it didn't work, so I took it apart a second time and gave it a pretty thorough clean through the pilot jet and passageway.

This time it seemed to work and for the next 20 kilometres the bike ran great! I could even start cold with no choke.

Today while riding it started experiencing the same symptoms and now again it won't run on idle and pops on decel.

Could it just be that my pilot jet is clogged again because I got something in the system while I was cleaning it? Or could this point to something else?

Should I take it apart and give the cleaning another go?

Your air filter had Better ALWAYS be oily.

Because it is an Oiled Foam Air Filter! Without enough oil to be squeezed thru & thru the foam and any excess simply squeezed back out it can't Stop the dust.
A dry or under oiled air filter can only stop the big chunks!

Chances are that the Clean Side of the air filter Box does not have any crankcase oil in it. There is supposed to be a drain hose with a plug in it near the rear brake pedal pivot for riders to occasionally check.

The 2010 & newer KLR's had a tiny secondary in-line fuel filter tucked into the black plastic fuel nipple on the LH rear side of the carb. Did it by chance get thrown away? Some time they get jammed a 1/4" up inside the fuel hose, did the hose not get flushed & re-installed in reverse direction? This could allow any crumbs that had been caught by it to flow into the carb.

You may not have gotten the 4 tiny low speed transition holes under the bottom lip of the throttle plate completely clean.
